After the Restore Nature Now march in London, what next?
Chris Packham and selected speakers all encouraged and inspired an emotional connected audience, yet this was speaking to the committed. The most important aspect was the connections and networking possible at these events and the sense of belonging, comradery and optimism.
The march got airtime on Channel 4 and ITV news, yet only a mention in a Stonehenge orange paint report on BBC News.
The subject of nature’s desecration and habitat destruction, as climate crisis continues unabated, is hardly considered, let alone talked about by the two mainstream Political Parties here in the UK.
It is abundantly clear that it is a topic that neither Party feels is in its top subjects for discussion. However, in real life it is the ONLY subject that poses a threat to our very existence as human beings and the habitability of the entire planet we live on. It is in fact THE MOST IMPORTANT SUBJECT, because all other subject fade into insignificance if we descend into climate catastrophe!
So how do we get it into the election and get noticed as a subject? Not by throwing washable orange paint over a symbol of the ancient origins of this country’s history in my opinion. That is counter-productive. We need to bring everyone together on climate and nature. There is a hidden and inherent vast majority of the electorate, and indeed of those too young to be allowed a vote, wanting us to prevent climate chaos and further destruction of nature.
There is a way we can all participate on election day to show that vast agreeing majority in a simple way.
On election day every man woman and child can express their ‘VISIBLE VOTE FOR NATURE’ by doing something that costs virtually nothing, is non-damaging, non-disruptive and low carbon.
Simply tie a coloured ribbon to your nearest traffic light or pelican crossing post. This marks your ‘adoption’ of your nearest traffic light and ‘transforms’ it into the message of STOP! (red light), THINK (amber light), GREEN PLANET (green light).
Each ribbon tied is that individual declaring that they vote for caring for the planet, even the children.
WE NEED TO SHOW ON ELECTION DAY JULY 4TH THE STRENGTH OF OPINION TO SUPPORT NATURE AND FOR OUR ELECTED LEADERS TO TAKE NOTE OF THE SERIOUSNESS OF SEEKING THE SOLUTION REQUIRE FOR OUR CONTINUED EXISTENCE.
Go and vote on Thursday in the polling booths but equally importantly ‘VISIBLY VOTE’ AT YOUR LOCAL TRAFFIC LIGHTS BY TYING YOUR RIBBON FOR NATUREI
This is so important because your vote for nature will be visibly fluttering in the breeze for long after the traditional election votes have been counted and MP’s elected.
WE NEED EVERY ELECTED MP TO BE IN NO DOUBT THAT CLIMATE AND NATURE, REQUIRED FOR OUR VERY EXISTENCE, MUST BE THOUGHT ABOUT AS WELL AS THOSE MYRIADS OF OTHER SUBJECTS UPON WHICH THEY WERE ELECTED TO PARLIAMENT.
