Hydraulic fracturing (Fracking) is the process of pumping water laden with often toxic chemicals and small particles underground at high pressure to fracture rocks and release gas trapped within.
So far 2 EU countries have banned fracking, citing environmental and health concerns.
Leakage percentage is high, both of the toxic liquid into the natural water table and of the methane gas (23 times more powerful than CO2 as a greenhouse gas) into the atmosphere.
